Visit to the sugar house on Blair’s farm, and The Legend of How Maple Syrup was discovered with Dwayne, NFSB Indigenous Consultant
A couple of weeks ago, we started an initiative at FES where students could “Get caught doing good!” If any adult saw a student doing something good or kind, without being asked, they would get their name put onto a heart and it would be added to our Acts of Kindness Board. The students and staff agreed that if we, as a school, reached over 80 hearts that the whole school would receive a reward.
In the end, the students had close to 100 hearts! Their reward was delicious homemade Blair’s pizza.
A BIG thank you to our custodian Cynthia Blair for taking the time to make us the delicious pizza! (Blair’s Pizza is their favourite!) Keep up the good work FES students!
ArtsFest once again a major highlight for NFSB! Congratulations Franklin Elementary for the artwork you contributed and the dedication of our choir students with Ms. Stevenson and Mme. Robidoux.
In addition to the workshops and projects done in class for Earth Day, each student received a free Earth Day theme book to take home. We hope the students enjoy reading these books and that they get inspired to keep thinking of all the ways we can help our planet thrive going forward.
Thank you to First Book Canada for a contribution that enabled us to give each of our students a book and add another four nature books to our school library.
Once again this year, Franklin received students from the Community, Recreation and Leadership (CRLT) program at Dawson College in Montreal. This was the fifth year Dawson students visited Franklin as part of their program. The CRLT program emphasizes recreation and community-based activities and events. At Franklin Elementary, these students organized educational nature activities for our students.
Franklin students received workshops from a contortionist! Our school’s ArtistsInspire Grant experience was made possible by an ELAN Quebec/LEARN partnership for students from Quebec’s English-speaking communities to participate in arts & culture experiences, thanks in part to funding from the Government of Canada.
Our Classe Nature is still active each week. This time parents, Frank and Chloe, hid in the forest and had to be found by the students. Children found evidence of the presence of deer. They also were able to see and use turkey calls and decoys.
As an extension of Classe nature, students are also bringing nature inside. Art, Math, and Science spring-themed activities are happening, for example the frog life cycle and changes in the environment.
